WASHINGTON (AP) — Jet engine maker Pratt & Whitney has a new problem on its hands.U.S. regulators are requiring immediate inspections and possible repairs to Pratt & Whitney engines on some Airbus passenger jets because of a risk that parts could fail and damage the planes during flight. The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday that it acted after further analysis of an engine shutdown last December that required pilots of an Airbus A320neo to abort a takeoff. The FAA said it will require ultrasonic inspections of the engine parts within 30 days. The rule replaces a directive from October, which told aircraft operators to have the engines checked at their next shop visit. The new order covers 20 engines on planes registered in the United States and 202 engines worldwide. Pratt faces another, much bigger problem that will require airlines to remove 1,200 engines from Airbus jets and potentially replace parts that were made with powder metal that became contaminated in th...Donald Trump, a una sola semana para entregarse y ser fichado por el caso de Georgia

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston coach Dana Holgorsen was talking with former star quarterback Case Keenum earlier this summer about when he should name a starting quarterback and end the competition between Donovan Smith and Lucas Coley.Keenum’s answer?“I wouldn’t,” Holgorsen said he told him. “Just let them compete, because if they compete, it makes them better, and then it should take care of itself.”Keenum’s answer came from experience with the same situation when he and Blake Joseph were vying for the job in 2008 before Keenum was eventually named the starter on a Houston team where Holgorsen was the offensive coordinator.Smith and Coley are competing to replace Clayton Tune, the team’s quarterback for the past four seasons.Smith joined the Cougars after appearing in 21 games for Texas Tech in the past two seasons. The 6-foot-5 Smith threw for 1,505 yards and 12 touchdowns last season after throwing for 1,181 yards and seven touchdowns in 2021. The owners of the Washington Nationals plan to transform the site of the old Landover Mall in Prince George’s County, Maryland, into a data center if it is not selected as the new location for the FBI headquarters, according to an NBC4 report. The 80-acre property near FedEx field, owned by the Lerner Corporation, a private real estate company, is one of two sites in the county being considered for the FBI’s new home. The other site is in Greenbelt, and a third one is in Springfield, Virginia.Prince George’s County officials told NBC4 that it is common practice to have various scenarios for the site, but considers the data center a “backup plan,” saying it does not change their intention in bringing the FBI to either location in the county. The General Services Administration is expected to make the long-awaited decision about the FBI headquarters’ new location by the end of the year.

Man shot by DC police during reported domestic violence investigation identified

Somewhere deep in the recesses of your kitchen liquor cabinet probably sits a bottle of dry vermouth. You know it’s there, but you really have no idea how long it’s been there. Maybe your uncle or a date wanted dry martinis and you bought it because you confused dry gin with dry vermouth. Or maybe you knew exactly what you were doing and wanted actual vermouth in your martini, a rarity these days. Whatever the case, you opened it way back when and now there it sits.Dry vermouth, or French, is the other kind of vermouth. Since Carpano Antica upped the game in sweet vermouth quality back in the late 1990s (and concurrently upped the game in Manhattans as well), new quality sweet vermouths have begun appearing on the market. The dry stuff though has always had a problem. The main difference (aside from color, which is added to sweet vermouth that is usually made from white wine) is the taste. Not to be confused with bianco vermouth, which in many cases is simply uncolored sweet vermout...Patriots have another potential emerging starter from 2023 NFL Draft class

The Patriots’ draft class already looks like a winner more than three weeks into training camp, and now they have another potential emerging starter.Fourth-round pick Sidy Sow — primarily a college guard — has moved all the way from the scout team to protecting quarterback Mac Jones in training camp this summer. There’s no guarantee he’ll stick in that spot when returning starting guards Cole Strange and Mike Onwenu return from injury, but the ascension has still been a good sign for the Eastern Michigan product.Related ArticlesNew England Patriots | Patriots rookie Malik Cunningham has taken on another expected role on offense New England Patriots | Why Patriots’ coaching braintrust is optimistic after ‘really beneficial’ week New England Patriots | Where is Patriots CB Jonathan Jones? Joel Streed | (TNS) Mayo Clinic News NetworkAt some point in their lifetimes, most people will experience a nosebleed. It’s common for adults and children, especially during dry winter months.Although rarely life-threatening, nosebleeds can cause anxiety and sometimes are difficult to control. Why do nosebleeds occur?Epistaxis, more commonly known as a nosebleed, occurs when a small blood vessel in the nose ruptures. The bleeding most commonly arises from the nasal septum, the partition that divides the two sides of your nose on the inside. The rupture can occur when something traumatizes or irritates the mucosa lining of the septum. Common causes are nose-picking, forcefully blowing the nose or an impact to the outside of the nose or face.Nosebleeds are more likely to occur when the nasal mucosa is dry and irritated. When there is low moisture content in the air, such as in the winter when homes are warmed with furnaces or electric heat, the blood vessels are more prone to tea...Hurricane Hilary grows rapidly off Mexico. By MARK STEVENSON and JULIE WATSON (Associated Press)MEXICO CITY (AP) — Hurricane Hilary grew rapidly into Category 4 strength off Mexico’s Pacific coast on Friday and could reach Southern California as the first tropical storm there in 84 years, which forecasters warned could cause extreme flooding, mudslides and even tornados. Hilary had sustained winds near 145 mph (230 kph) early Friday, and was expected to strengthen a bit more before starting to weaken. Nevertheless, it was forecast to still be a hurricane when approaching Mexico’s Baja California peninsula on Saturday night, and a tropical storm when approaching Southern California on Sunday. The National Hurricane Center on Friday issued its first ever tropical storm watch for much of Southern California, covering a wide swath of the region from the coast to the interior mountains and deserts.
