Nuggets’ Christian Braun becoming hard to “keep off the floor” in Denver’s second unit DETROIT — Christian Braun attacked his minutes Thursday night like a dog salivating over red meat.Throughout an inconsistent campaign, Braun has stayed even-keeled, unperturbed when the minutes come and go. But more often than not, when Nuggets coach Michael Malone has opted for the poised rookie, he’s delivered.Such was the case against the Pistons, when the Nuggets desperately needed to snap a four-game losing streak, and Braun was a fixture of the lineup that swung the game.Throughout the first five-plus minutes of the fourth quarter, the Nuggets outscored Detroit 11-5, which created the rare advantage while Nikola Jokic rested. Denver’s much-maligned bench unit took shape, with Braun, Bruce Brown, Jeff Green, Thomas Bryant and Jamal Murray bridging the gap between starters and reserves.Asked what he wanted the identity of that unit to be, Malone distilled the priorities succinctly.“I want that identity to be defend, rebound, run, be nasty, be physical, and get some easy baskets ...

And right now, that’s courage, too, because I know what’s happening. I just lost half my money to this banking thing, and that doesn’t mean that I’m not here.”Stone, who was accepting the Courage Award from the organization that supports cancer research, didn’t elaborate on the specific “banking thing” that caused her losses, The Hollywood Reporter said.BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA – MARCH 16: Honoree Sharon Stone speaks onstage during A...

Santa Clara basketball feeling the momentum thanks to Jalen Williams’ NBA success and Brandin Podziemski’s outstanding year SANTA CLARA — Santa Clara’s Keshawn Justice hadn’t yet started his shooting motion when Brandin Podziemski was already identifying his path from behind the arc to get into rebounding position. As Justice began to shoot, Podziemski’s momentum started taking him towards the glass, and as the ball took flight, Podziemski was already standing to the left of the basket. The ball hit the rim and bounced to the left, right into his hands. When trying to explain how Podziemski, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, led the West Coast Conference with 8.8 rebounds per game this season, the easiest answer is pure instinct.Santa Clara’s 23-win season, their first since 1969, came to an end on Wednesday night after a 58-56 loss to Sam Houston in the first round of the NIT Tournament, but the Broncos are still riding high with the possibility that they could have two different players selected in back-to-back NBA Drafts for the first time since it was reduced to two rounds in 1989.After Jalen Williams wa...
