From anxious kid to Hollywood director, Todd Strauss-Schulson had to learn mindfulness to work through all his anxious thoughts. His debut children’s book may be gross, but it’s a lesson in mindfulness for kids and parents alike. Anxiety, sorrow, fear – it’s not just the adult brain that has to go toe-to-toe with unpleasant thoughts sometimes. The kid brain is just as susceptible to the feelings, emotions, and thoughts that pop up through the day.It could be an anxiousness about fitting in at recess. It could be the sorrow of an early experience of loss. Maybe, it’s even the fear of the monster hiding under the bed. Kids have a lot to cope with between the ears – how about we start teaching them about mindfulness? But what is the best way to teach children about mindfulness and how to relate to their thoughts? That’s the riddle being solved by author Todd Strauss-Schulson.You probably know him as the Hollywood director behind A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, The Final Girls (the ...Letters: Homeless help | Misdirected outrage | Cancer screening

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Wade Miley is expected to miss six to eight weeks with a muscle strain in the back of his throwing shoulder.Brewers manager Craig Counsell announced the timeframe before Friday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.Left fielder Christian Yelich returned to the lineup after missing two games with back issues, and left-hander Eric Lauer — coming off his first relief appearance of the season last Sunday — will start or follow an opener on Saturday.Miley went on the injured list Wednesday, one day after the injury originally thought to be a lat strain caused him to leave a game after throwing only 22 pitches. He underwent additional tests on Thursday.Counsell said the muscle involved controls movement of the scapula and is not a common throwing injury.“Because this is more unknown side, there’s going to be some wiggle room there,” Counsell said of the recovery timeframe.Yelich started Friday hitting .333 (16 of 48) ...Lakers looking for boost after falling behind Denver in conference finals

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Although the Los Angeles Lakers’ late-season transformation is one of this NBA season’s best stories, LeBron James and his teammates finally appear to be running out of steam in the Western Conference finals. They’ve also finally run into an opponent capable of making sure this story doesn’t have a completely happy ending. After looking weary and mistake-prone in Denver during their first back-to-back losses in over two months, the Lakers face a must-win Game 3 Saturday.Los Angeles has been on a prolonged roll ever since the trade deadline, going 27-12 while surging into the playoff picture, winning a play-in game and knocking out two higher-seeded opponents in six games. But that roll has finally been slowed by Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and the respect-hungry Nuggets, whose superior late-game play was the reason they’re up 2-0.“This is not the NCAA Tournament,” James said. “It’s the first team to four wins. We have an opportunity to go home and p...PGA Live Updates | Spieth, Rahm among those flirting with cut at PGA Championship

Way down the leaderboard, there’s another race going on.Who gets to return to Oak Hill on Saturday? The cut was shaping up to be 5-over par, and every shot matters to Masters champion Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth.Rahm was one shot outside the cut line until he made birdies on the 13th and 14th holes to get to 4 over. Spieth was moving in the right direction until he bogeyed the 11th, made double bogey on the 12th and a bogey on the 14th to fall to 6 over. Spieth was in a bunker in front of the reachable par-4 14th hole and sent that over the fence and out-of-bounds.He bounced back with a birdie on the 15th and was right on the cut line at 5 over.Among those certain to miss was Talor Gooch. That’s only significant because Gooch is No. 63 in the world. The top 60 after this week are exempt into the U.S. Open. Gooch did not enter qualifying, and therefore won’...Latest news
