SANTA CLARA — Wide receiver Jauan Jennings knew exactly how to describe Brock Purdy after a milestone in the quarterback’s comeback from elbow surgery.“Brock-star. We love him out there,” Jennings said Thursday.Purdy was out there practicing three consecutive days this week for the first time since his March 10 surgery, keeping him firmly on track to start the 49ers’ regular-season opener Sept. 10 at the Pittsburgh Steelers. When it comes to preseason football, however, the 49ers love Purdy out of danger and over on the sideline. He’s not expected to play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Denver Broncos at Levi’s Stadium, after he and every other would-be starter sat out Sunday’s 34-7 loss at the Las Vegas Raiders.Sam Darnold could get the start if coach Kyle Shanahan opts not to give Trey Lance a mulligan after his shaky outing against the Raiders.Purdy certainly got the most work in Thursday’s brisk practice. He too...Interactive map: Where 12,800 California gun homicides happened

Gun homicides killed nearly 13,000 people in California from 2014 through 2022. This new map is a grim memorial of sorts for those lives taken by gun violence, each life lost a dot on the map.You can zoom in on your neighborhood, or any street in the state to see where these violent deaths happened. The map is from Hope and Heal Fund, a violence prevention nonprofit formed in the wake of the mass shootings in San Bernardino in 2015.Refujio “Cuco” Rodriguez-Rodriguez, the nonprofit’s Chief Strategist and Equity Officer, recalls people asserting that homicides in Los Angeles were driving the state’s homicide rate, and thinking “Where’s that data point? where are you getting that?”Now, after years of research and mapping, he has an answer, and it confirmed his hypothesis. One of the group’s main findings is that “rural counties are disproportionately impacted by gun violence.”The research shows that some counties in the Central Valley, an...Yeti store and several restaurants head to Santana Row in San Jose

Kate Middleton reportedly “let her hair down” at a music festival last weekend, enjoying dinner and sipping margaritas with her country friends, the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley, who have long been the objects of fascination in royal circles and among royal followers because of the longstanding but unsubstantiated rumor that Prince William and the marchioness once became too friendly, or even had an affair.Photos emerged this week on social media of the Princess of Wales in a rare private moment at the Houghton Festival, which was staged on the grounds of the Cholmondeleys’ 1,000-acre estate in Norfolk. Kate and William have an estate nearby.Royal watchers no doubt enjoyed seeing the usually polished princess in this unguarded moment, drinking what appears to be a cocktail and dressed casually in black jeans and sneakers. There also were reports that she tipped waitstaff nearly $900, as her friends also poured out tastes of a high-end French rose wine, ...Best Kratom Capsules From Top Brands in 2023: Buy Kratom Pills That Actually Work

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chip Kelly has faced nearly every scenario since becoming UCLA’s coach in 2018. The one thing he didn’t have to worry about, though, was who would play quarterback. After Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s graduation, Kelly enters his sixth season in Westwood with a quarterback competition between four players.Even though Kelly has not named a starter for the Sept. 2 opener against Coastal Carolina, he isn’t overly stressed about it.“Someone has to take a snap on the first drive and tell everyone who that will be,” Kelly said when asked if he was getting closer to a decision.Ethan Garbers and Dante Moore remain among the favorites to win the job. Garbers is in his third season with the program after transferring from Washington in 2021.The redshirt junior has seen action in 11 games over the past two years. Garbers came in late during last year’s Sun Bowl against Pitt and led the Bruins on an eight-play, 70-yard TD drive that gave the Bruins a 35-34 lead with 34 seconds re...UN: North Korea is increasing repression as people are reportedly starving in parts of the country
