American Airlines and JetBlue Airways must abandon their partnership in the northeast United States, a federal judge in Boston ruled Friday, saying that the government proved that the deal reduces competition in the airline industry. The ruling is a blow for the airlines, which have said that their deal helps consumers by creating a stronger competitor in the Northeast to Delta Air Lines and United Airlines. But U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin wrote that through their alliance, American and JetBlue carved up Northeast markets between them, “replacing full-throated competition with broad cooperation.”Sorokin said the airlines offered only minimal evidence that the partnership helped consumers. The ruling is a major victory for the Biden administration, which has used aggressive enforcement of antitrust laws to fight against mergers and other arrangements between large corporations. The Justice Department sued to kill the deal in 2021, and was joined by six states and the District of Col...Business Highlights: Fed chair hints at rate hike pause; Talks to avoid US default at standstill

BOSTON (AP) — The latest Eastern Conference finals pairing between the Heat and Celtics will be a matchup that ultimately turns on the play stars like Jimmy Butler and Jayson Tatum. But Miami’s 123-116 Game 1 victory also showed how the tactical battle between rookie coach Joe Mazzulla and veteran counterpart Erik Spoelstra will also play a big factor. The Celtics dominated the first two quarters on Wednesday night before being outscored 46-25 in the third period – the most points they’ve allowed in any playoff quarter over the past 25 years. It put Boston into 103-91 hole it never overcame. The game-changing onslaught also included 13-1 run by the Heat to help tie the game in which Mazzulla made the decision not to call a timeout, something that has become a recurring theme for him this season because of his preference to let the Celtics play through rough patches.“I don’t think it’s a challenge in the postseason, I think it’s human nature,” Mazzulla said Thursday when asked about his...Panthers, Hurricanes face tight window to get ready for Game 2 after 4OT thriller

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — His Florida Panthers were not even a half-day removed from surviving a four-overtime thriller to open the Eastern Conference Final when Paul Maurice wrapped up his news conference with a question.“OK, everybody, I’ll see you eight hours from now,” the coach said Friday. “Is that the routine we’re on now?”It sure feels like it after the Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes played one of the longest games in NHL postseason history, one that left players’ legs wobbly and minds weary in a contest that seemed at times destined to keep going. And going. And going.Along the way, it was enough to have Maurice wonder aloud how long both teams could go without risking injuries, while leaving players from both rosters to scarf down snacks or chug fluids in hopes to hanging in there through 15-minute intermissions before each OT. Now the Panthers and Hurricanes have a compressed window to rest, recharge and — in Carolina’s case, particularly — regroup befo...Fort Lauderdale man sky dives with ‘Open 4 work’ sign, lands new job
